I joined Migrant Voice outside the Home Office on Halloween to call for visa fee reform. Extortionate
visa fees and arduous settlement routes are making many people’s lives a nightmare. At over £2,600 per person every two and a half years, these fees are now set to rise again. Migrants who want to settle in the UK must live here for at least 5 years before they can apply for permanent residence. However, many are placed on the longer “10-year route”, doubling the cost. The current visa and settlement system affects every aspect of people’s lives, from mental and physical health to their children’s life chances. It’s time for visa fee reform.
