On the 11th of December, I spoke in an Urgent Question on the current situation unfolding in Gaza, asking the government why they continue to refuse to call for a ceasefire in Gaza, recognise the State of Palestine, or support any of the measures that could lead to a just and lasting peace between Palestinians and Israelis.
Far from supporting measures for peace, the government has licensed £472+ million in arms sales to Israel since 2015. This was the subject of a Westminster Hall debate on arms sales to Israel, secured by Zarah Sultana MP, on the following day. I pointed out that this means the UK is not just complicit in the killing of civilians in Gaza but also in the ongoing occupation of the West Bank. We should follow past precedent and suspend arms sales to Israel and any other country that is violating international law and human rights.
