I recently launched my Laptops for Learning campaign, delivered with the help of the brilliant Lambeth Tech Aid. From the donations we’ve received so far, we’ve now managed to provide 37 Chromebooks to school children in the local area. That’s on top of the 100 devices we delivered in 2020.
The Government has confirmed schools will remain closed until early March. With many children in our area still without the technology they need for distance learning, I’m keen to make sure no child is deprived of an education just because they cannot get online.
The pandemic has been a reminder of the huge digital divide in the UK and the need to improve slow internet speeds in Streatham and beyond. It’s not just that everyone deserves internet access; it’s that without it, you can’t access most of the things you need to function in the 21st century. This is something I will continue to raise and campaign on going forwards. In the meantime, please consider making a donation to my Laptops for Learning fundraiser to ensure that kids in the constituency can carry on with their learning online over the coming months.
As well as making a cash donation to Laptops for Learning, you can also donate old devices to Lambeth Tech Aid, who will wipe them down and get them to people who need them locally: https://app.techaid.ju.ma/donate-device
