I welcome the Health and Social Care Select Committee’s vital report into Black Maternal Health, another important contribution to this emerging field of policy research. Black women remain three times more likely to die during pregnancy and childbirth. So I was dismayed that the government’s latest NHS 10-Year Plan made no explicit mention of Black Maternal Health. The government stood on a manifesto pledge to set an explicit target to close the maternal mortality gap. I was glad to hear the Chair agree that this must happen without further delay.
