In a backbench business debate on knife crime, I argued that rebuilding the social support systems dismantled by the Tories is key to tackling this issue. This year brought another increase in the number of knife-related incidents—up 2.7% in the year to February 2025. We cannot simply police our way out of this situation. There are no quick fixes to the knife crime epidemic but investment in youth services, community-led initiatives and early intervention is key if we are going to keep our young people safe. I will continue to urge the government to do this.
