I spoke to Sky News about the government’s reluctance to discuss reparations at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2024. The racism many UK citizens continue to face today is rooted in our country’s role in slavery, colonialism and the systems built to legitimise them. The UK has both a moral and legal duty to address its role in these injustices and address their enduring damage. Refusing to address our country’s role in slavery and colonialism speaks volumes about the regard in which we hold people who still live with their impact.
