Two people sit behind a long wooden table in a room featuring ornate wood paneling and red-and-gold patterned wallpaper. Bell Riberi-Addy on the left wears a black long-sleeved shirt, while Malik Al-Nasir on the right is dressed in a blue patterned button-down shirt. The green leather chairs behind them display a gold-colored crown and portcullis emblem, and several microphones and a monitor are placed on the tabletop.

I hosted a book launch for author and academic Malik Al-Nasir in Parliament. Taking the author’s own heritage as a Black Liverpudlian as a starting point, ‘Seaching for my Slave Roots’ is an important excavation of our country’s historic role in the Transatlantic Slave Trade and its lasting legacy. It was good to explore Malik’s personal and historical research into enslavement, empire, and the contemporary case for reparative justice.
