I chaired a meeting of the APPG for Immigration Detention to discuss the concerning situation in UK immigration detention facilities. We were joined by HM Chief Inspector of Prisons to discuss his concerning report, which warned of a “worrying deterioration in safety” in UK immigration detention, as well as people with lived experience of the detention system. We need to address this situation and push for an overall reduction to the number of people held in detention.
