Bell has called for safety to be the top priority today, visiting shops in the constituency to talk to business owners and shoppers yesterday about their preparations ahead of reopening.
Bell Ribeiro-Addy MP said:
“Safety comes first. I’m calling for Streatham constituents to follow social distancing guidelines this weekend: wear a mask if you’re using public transport, keep the two-metre distance where possible and wash your hands thoroughly and regularly.
“While I agree there is a need to keep the economy moving, track and trace testing is still a dim prospect and local authorities aren’t getting accurate coronavirus case counts.
“The Government is cutting corners on public health and economic support alike. The sad truth is that small, independent businesses have been badly let down by the Government’s limited support measures.
“We need a jobs-focused approach to the recovery that prioritises sustainable investment with local business at the forefront.”
