Olive Morris was a civil rights champion, who embodied the best of Brixton: a radical anti-racist and feminist housing activist who stood up for social justice. She was taken from us far too young, dying of cancer at the age of just 27 in 1979, This month, I was honoured to attend the unveiling of an English Heritage blue plaque at 121 Railton Road commemorating Olive’s work and activism. The unveiling was organised by Shout Out Loud, English Heritage’s national youth engagement programme in collaboration with South Central Youth, the Black Curriculum and the Advocacy Academy.
