Hundreds of people gathered in Windrush Square in the aftermath of the far right riots to show their opposition to hatred and racism. The protest was part of a series of fifty anti-fascist demonstrations across the UK, with gatherings taking place in cities including Glasgow, Cardiff and Belfast. Our community has long led the way on fighting racism but it was still fantastic to see anti-racists vastly outnumbering the fascist thugs who tried to take control of our streets.
In the same week, we saw beautiful scenes of solidarity and unity as anti-fascists turned to drive back the far right across the country and show that our communities will not be divided by their hatred, their violence or their racism. We must now build a movement to defeat the far right for good by demanding an end to austerity, scapegoating, misinformation, the hostile environment, and the erasure of Britain’s imperial past.
