Today’s protests are the signposts of tomorrow’s progress. From the Suffragettes to the Bristol Bus Boycotts, our country’s rich tradition of dissent paved the pathway for the cherished social advancements we enjoy today: from equal suffrage to the Race Relations Act. Regrettably, laws brought in under the last Tory government are now seeing peaceful protesters
imprisoned for lengthy terms. I asked the Home Office whether they will review these silencing laws with a view to repealing them and protecting the right to protest.
