This month, Ghana tabled a historic resolution at the UN to recognise the trafficking and enslavement of Africans as a crime against humanity. Ahead of the vote, I wrote to the government to ask whether they would support this motion and raised a point of order on the matter in Parliament. Ultimately, UN Delegates voted overwhelmingly to adopt the resolution. Britain abstained. This refusal to support a resolution adopted by the global majority leaves us on the wrong side of history and more isolated on the world stage. The call for reparatory justice is only getting louder.
