Christopher Kapessa, a black child, died after being pushed into the River Cynon in South Wales on 1 July 2019. His family are appalled by the way the case has been handled. The Crown Prosecution Service deciding it was not in the public interest to seek a prosecution despite their own admission that sufficient evidence did exist to bring a charge of manslaughter.
I joined the launch of the Justice for Christopher Kapessa campaign to talk about the family’s struggle for justice. It’s absolutely vital that we recommit to learning the lessons from the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry and to challenge and root out systemic and structural racism within the criminal justice system.
