Nova Reid, Diane Abbott MP and Bell Ribeiro-Addy stand indoors holding pink and white posters that read “STAND UP TO RACISM – WOMEN AGAINST THE FAR RIGHT – Reject racist lies – Refugees are not to blame.” They are standing in a parliamentary committee room with ornate green wallpaper.

We need to keep shouting about the fact that there is no greater threat to women’s safety than the men standing outside asylum hotels pointing the finger at asylum seekers. 40% of the men arrested for participating in last year’s racist riots had previously been reported to the police for domestic abuse. I’m pleased to be involved with the Women Against the Far Right initiative, which seeks to puncture the narrative that the men involved with this campaign have any interest in women’s safety whatsoever. They do not. Their sole interest is in using this issue to create fear, anger and hysteria about the presence of migrants and their descendants in the UK.
