Recent research from the charity Bliss has highlighted the severe shortage of neonatal accommodation in hospitals. Parents of babies requiring such care are routinely expected to leave them in hospital overnight, sometimes for weeks or months at a time. This research concluded that for every 10 babies who have to stay overnight in neonatal care, there is just one room for a parent to stay with them. I was drawn for a Health and Social Care question and asked the government about this. I pressed them on how they plan to ensure our NHS has the resources it needs for parents to be with their newborns at this crucial time.
