After the passage of the Government’s disgraceful Police Crackdown Bill, I was proud to stand in solidarity with Gypsy, Roma and Traveller (GRT) communities facing further persecution under this dreadful legislation.

Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities are among the most persecuted groups in the world. The Government should be ensuring they have safe places to go and protecting them from hate crimes. Instead, they are introducing legislation that outlaws their way of life.

Along with colleagues in the Labour Party, I supported amendments to investigate rising hate crimes against GRT communities, review the Bill’s impact on GRT communities and train public bodies to better engage with them.

An injury to one is an injury to all. Let’s keep standing together to protect each other and face down this disgraceful legislation.
