The government plans to double the qualifying period for indefinite leave to remain, risking an exodus of international health workers in our depleted and struggling NHS. During a Westminster Hall Debate, I pressed ministers to clarify whether this change will be applied to people who are already on pathways to citizenship. It would be incredibly cruel and damaging to apply this change retrospectively, upheaving lives by moving the goalposts.
