The government has promised that Artificial Intelligence will be “mainlined into the veins” of our country. During a Department I asked what steps are being taken to mitigate the huge potential drains on water and the environment, which risk exacerbating climate breakdown.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to revolutionise many industries, and its continued evolution promises to significantly impact many aspects of our daily lives. The government needs to take an active role in engaging with the tech industry, academia, and civil society to understand its full implications. We need to develop a regulatory framework that promotes innovation while safeguarding human rights and values.
