I hosted the National Black Police Association in Parliament to hear from Black and ethnic minority officers in the Met. Two years on from the Casey Review, we heard disturbing testimony from officers about persistent institutional racism and sexism in the Met. This report painted a damning yet familiar picture of the Met victimising communities, failing victims, wrecking public confidence and creating a toxic workplace culture. Too often, the Met has failed to accept the depth of these problems. If we are to restore confidence in policing, the government must turn its attention back to this issue and work to create a more inclusive workforce culture and hardwiring accountability into policing.
