The companies running our immigration and asylum system are making millions from shoddy services, profiteering on human misery. In this week’s Westminster Hall debate on outsourcing, I highlighted this rip-off and called on the government to review their contracts. There’s a symbiotic relationship between right-wing politicians, who seek political capital from attacking refugees, and these companies, who make huge amounts of actual capital and often have close links with the very same politicians. This is not an issue that gets enough airtime. I’ll continue to raise it, including in my capacity as Chair of the APPG for Immigration Detention.
