Dear *|FNAME|*,
Monday saw the introduction of the government’s Passenger Railway Services (Public Ownership) Bill. This legislation will effectively restore rail operating franchises to public ownership over the course of this Parliament. The government is taking the money paid to shareholders and instead investing it back in our railways to keep fares down and improve services.
I was pleased to vote for this legislation and clear that it needs to go further. As long as the companies that own our trains remain in private hands, passengers will pay more so they can pay their shareholders. If we are going to truly end profiteering on our railways and deliver the best value for passengers, we should be aiming to buy and own our trains directly too.
